The Wadworth brewery and visitor centre in Devizes, Wiltshire has topped off a string of successes with a prestigious Green Tourism Silver Award, recognising the team’s dedication to running a sustainable operation.
Green Tourism is the largest sustainable certification programme of its kind, with venues assessed against a rigorous set of criteria, covering a range of areas such as energy and water efficiency, waste management, biodiversity as well as social and ethical choices. Wadworth boasts several eco-friendly initiatives, including the recycling of any excess beer by a local bio-plant, while the site is also 100 per cent powered by solar energy.
Alongside this recognition, the Wadworth brewery and visitor centre has recently received a Welcome Accolade from VisitEngland; which is awarded to tourism attractions that provide a warm welcome; and Bronze in the 2016 South West Tourism Excellence Awards; while maintaining its inclusion in the VisitEngland ‘Visitor Attraction Quality Assured Scheme’ for the year.
Chris Welham, CEO at Wadworth, said: “We’re thrilled that our brewery and visitor centre has won yet another tourism award. The team work incredibly hard to create an experience for guests that is interesting, informative and fun, and we believe we offer one of the country’s best brewery tours.
“We also want to ensure our site is as sustainable as possible, so are very pleased with a four per cent increase in our overall score from Green Tourism – next time, we’re going for gold!”
