Wadworth, the pub operator and family brewer, has just completed an investment of £600,000 into its brewery facilities in Devizes, Wiltshire, including a newer and bigger stable for its three famous shire horses.
This is the conclusion of a long-term investment plan that initially began four years ago, after changes to the distribution of the brewery’s drinks created additional room on the main site. The Wadworth shire horses are amongst the last remaining horses used by a British brewery to deliver beer, and the investment has meant that Max, Monty and Archie have now got new, bigger stables on the main site.
Additionally, the wine and spirits facility, previously situated elsewhere in Devizes, has been moved to Wadworth’s main site, in order to make the distribution process more efficient, with the sign shop also relocated to the brewery building. All aspects of the business are now in one location, and close to the popular visitor centre where visitors can see for themselves the only brewery in the country with its own dedicated hand painted pub sign shop.
Chris Welham, CEO at Wadworth, said: “The consolidation of the two sites is something we have been working towards and now the transition is complete we can benefit from operating a more efficient brewery and distribution system. The last stage of the investment was to move our horses, and they are now settled and enjoying their new environment”.
